Synopsis
Happiness is the sum total of an entire life.
Every pursuit in life is a pursuit for happiness.
Life is suffering. It is an abode of anxiety, depression, concern. The nature of life is in its impermanence and things that are impermanent will never give you true satisfaction. The only thing that will satisfy you is what’s permanent, and the only thing that is permanent is Allah Subḥānahu wa-taʿālā. And this is why, no matter what you’re going after in this dunya, it is all an illusion that you’re pursuing, if you’re not pursuing Allah Subḥānahu wa-taʿālā.
Grief can open up a door, that might have been closed before it happened. And Allah will often put grief into your life, in order for you to call on Him and come back to Allah SWT. And that’s why you have to embrace that gift. Because if you’re a believer, its a gift. You might not see it, but it is a gift. This is our belief. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, how wondrous is the believer’s affair, because all of it is good. If God tries him, he’s patient, and if He gives you, he’s grateful. Now, there are those who see the gift in tribulation. That is the highest maqaam (place). Allah says, “Few of My servants are always grateful”.
And what does iblis want? He wants to make sure that we’re not grateful. That is his whole game, to remove gratitude from your heart. So, either you have patience, or you have gratitude. But to be in any other state, is a dangerous state. Shaitaan wants you to be ungrateful, because he is an ingrate. Iblis is an ingrate. Muslims now, they complain all the time. They complain about their hukkaam (rulers), their social conditions, their economic conditions. We are the best complainers on the planet. And the thing about complaining… Allah will just give you more to complain about. And that is why gratitude is the best state to be in.
If you’re in aman (peace), thank God you are not in chaos. If you’re in chaos, thank God you have iman (belief/faith).
Don’t belittle people. If you see a Muslim who is in tribulation… if he still has the Kalima, he’s from the ummah.
